A local man has pleaded innocent to a pair of felony charges in Huron County Common Pleas Court.
Kevin E. Knott, 24, of 1224 Peru Olena Road, to theft of drugs and tampering with evidence, both in connection with a Sept. 11 incident.
"The defendant had just gotten out of jail," Huron County Prosecutor Russell Leffler said.
Knott is accused of stealing pills from a female relative and ditching them later, attorneys said.
"He dropped them on the ground when the officer approached. He didn't do a good job of fooling him," said Huron County Public Defender David Longo, who referred to the circumstances as what authorities once called "the Erie County special."
Knott, whose trial date is Dec. 3, must post a $7,500 bond before being released from custody and is subject to random drug screens. He told the judge he has a prior felony conviction, but didn't elaborate.
