A Reynoldsburg man charged with asking girls for nude photographs in exchange for cash on Facebook pleaded not guilty to child-pornography charges in federal court yesterday.
Matthew C. North, 22, of 7576 S. Oakbrook Dr., has been indicted on eight charges involving five minors.
An Aug. 29 federal complaint says that Reynoldsburg police detectives interviewed a 14-year-old girl in April who said North had paid her to send him nude photos of herself. She said North had sent her photos of his penis and had offered to pay her $1,000 or more if she would engage in sex acts.
Detectives also found a 15-year-old girl who said North had offered her money for nude photographs and sex.
The complaint says that, during an April 11 search of North’s home, he admitted that he had paid the 14-year-old for nude photographs and solicited her for sex and that he had obtained nude photos of two or three other girls by contacting them online.
Police arrested North after the search and charged him in Franklin County Municipal Court with pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor.
After further investigation by police and the FBI, state charges against North were dropped and replaced with federal charges.
During a brief arraignment yesterday, North told U.S. District Magistrate Judge Terrence P. Kemp that he dropped out of high school in ninth grade.
He was in the Franklin County jail yesterday. A bond hearing has not been set.
