The ex-boyfriend of a woman whose body was found on Wednesday in her Buckeye Lake neighborhood home was charged today with murder.
Scott L. Farringer, 35, of Reynoldsburg, who fathered a child with Denise K. Haught, also 35, also was charged with voluntary manslaughter and abduction.
He pleaded not guilty in Fairfield County Municipal Court. Conviction of murder is punishable by a maximum of 15 years to life in prison.
County Prosecutor Gregg Marx said he expects to present the case to a grand jury next Friday, and to seek additional charges.
Municipal Court Judge Patrick Harris ordered Farringer held on $1 million bond.
Marx refused to release the preliminary results of an autopsy done yesterday. He also refused to provide any details of what led up to Haught’s death.
Haught’s body was found inside the rental home she had moved into recently at 13156 Shell Beach Rd. NE in the Fairfield Beach neighborhood of Walnut Township.
Two people called 911 from the house at about 8:30 a.m. and told dispatchers that Haught’s “ psycho ex-old man” had “put his hands on her” during an argument at the house at about 3 a.m., and now they could not rouse her.
Haught had five children, her 15-year-old son Cyrus Haught said, including children aged 2 and 4 who lived with her at the house. The children are now with other family members, he said.
Farringer and Haught had a 4-year-old son together, Elijah Haught, according to court records pertaining to paternity establishment and child-support collection.
Farringer appeared in court today with a black eye and scratches on his neck.
