An Okeana man received a jail sentence Wednesday after pleading guilty to child pornography charges.Branden Snyder, 21, of 3829 Howards Creek Road, pleaded guilty in July to 10 counts of pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor. Five charges are second-degree felonies; the remainder are fourth-degree felonies.
Butler County Common Pleas Judge Charles Pater sentenced Snyder to 90 days in jail, three years probation, ordered he not have access to a personal computer, and complete psychological counseling. He was also declared a Tier II sex offender, which requires him to register every 180 days for the next 25 years.
The investigation began in September with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. A task force investigator working to identify people who possessed and shared pornography using peer-to-peer software identified images alleged to be child pornography downloaded to an IP address assigned to a subscriber at the Howards Creek address, according to court records.
Butler County Sheriff’s Deputies were notified and obtained a search warrant to seize the computer. While at the residence, Snyder confessed to having photographs of minors on his computer, according to investigators.
According to court records, the images included pre-pubescent children in various states of nudity, one as young as 4, engaging in sex acts with an adult.
