Family First Night — New Year’s Eve Party. That’s right, the fourth annual event will be held for the entire family to celebrate in a fun, safe, tobacco and drug free environment. The American Lung Association and the Norwalk Parks & Recreation Department are bringing you a family friendly event full of games, bounce houses, swimming, door prizes, watching the ball drop on big screen, and much more. The event will be held at the Norwalk Ernsthausen Community Complex from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Admission is free, so gather all your family and friends and join us for a night of fun.
Youth gymnastic and dance classes will start a new session on Jan. 7. Little Pikes is our all boys class for 5- to 7-year-olds. Register now for your spot in a class. Gymnastic/dance classes offer children a way to become more physically fit, develop coordination and self-confidence. Classes are available for children 3 years and older. Gymnastic costs are $28 for members, $33 for all others. Dance fees are $30 for members, $35 for all others. Parents…are you looking for something for your young toddler to get involved in? Check out our class, Playtime Pals, just for you and your child to spend one-on-one time exploring the use of gross motor skills, muscle movement, coordination, and cognitive development through various activities. What a great way to encourage your child’s development and meet new parents and toddlers. Class will be held at 10 a.m. Friday starting Jan. 11. Cost is $28 for members, $33 for all others. The W.E.L.L. presents: Young artist in the making — This enrichment program focuses on art that is guaranteed to bring a smile to your child’s face. Art projects will be made allowing your child to enhance their self-esteem, express feelings and explore their creativity. No artistic experience is required, just come with an attitude of fun!!! The final art products will be exhibited and available for sale. Part of the proceeds will go right into your child’s pocket. The rest of the proceeds will be put into the W.E.L.L.’s community fund. Children ages 7 to 12 years are welcome to register. The next session will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 5 to Feb. 9 at the clubhouse at Veterans Memorial Lake Park. Cost is $40 per child. New is Oodles of Art — a hands on art class or preschoolers. Join your child for a creative and fun time together. Your child’s creative mind will be challenged each week as they explore a different hands-on project. Art is a wonderful learning tool as it nurtures inventiveness as it engages children in a process that aids in the development of self-esteem, self-discipline, cooperation, and self-motivation. The next session will start the first week in January. Children ages 3 to 5 are welcome to register by Jan. 2 (One adult per child required). Cost is $26 for members, $34 for all others. Winter swim lessons are to start Jan. 7. Learning to swim is a benefit that will last a lifetime. It is a crucial skill that every age should learn. Classes will be held on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Cost is $33 for members, $43 for all others. Participants must be registered by Jan. 3.
The Ohio State University Extension office is excited to offer the next cooking class, ‘Comfort Foods,’ on Jan. 17. Often we call them comfort foods because they are high in fat, sugar, and calories. Learn about some new ways to lighten up some favorite comfort foods. This class will be held at the Vetrans Memorial Lake Park clubhouse from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The cost is $6 per person. Register by Jan. 14.
Kidfit — this exercise class will get your child moving with a variety of activities from aerobics, toning, calisthenics and other exercise tools. This class will promote healthy living through fitness as well as simple nutrition tidbits. The sooner your child starts a healthy lifestyle, the easier it will be to make good health a lifelong habit. Children ages 5 to 10 years are welcome to register. Class will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays Jan. 7 to 30 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $32 for members, $40 for all others. All participants must be registered by Jan. 4.
Ballroom/social dance class to start Sundays, Jan. 6 to Feb. 24. Join Timothy, from Black Tie Dance Studio in Sandusky, as he moves you through the foxtrot, waltz, rumba, swing and even the salsa. Dancing is always great exercise and a wonderful way to bond with that special someone. Classes will be held at the Ernsthausen Community Center for level 1 from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and level 2 from 4 to 5:30. Participants must register by Jan. 4.
