Police say man pulled from burning house had been shot

Blood and marijuana were found inside the house.

Columbus police are investigating the death of a man who was pulled out of a burning house on the Northeast Side this morning.Homicide Sgt. Steven Little said the man was dead when firefighters arrived. He had been shot, and the fire had been set, Little said.

Blood and marijuana were found inside the house, he said.

Firefighters were called to 1503 Hempwood Dr. about 6:45 this morning, Battalion Chief Patrick Ferguson said. What he described as suspicious fires were found in a bedroom closet and by the stairs.

The man has not been identified, but police believe he is the 56-year-old homeowner, Little said.

His body remained in front of the garage this morning awaiting somone from the coroner's office.
