A Norwalk rape suspect must post a $50,000 bond before being released from the Huron County Jail.

Prosecutors filed the first-degree felony Monday against Timothy M. Adkins, 24, of 59 1/2 Linwood Ave., in connection with an early Saturday morning incident. If convicted, the suspect faces three to 10 years in prison and a maximum fine of $20,000.

About 3:40 a.m., a Harkness Street resident was awakened by a 30-year-old Chatham Street woman who said there was an undisclosed disturbance at her home, Norwalk Police Officer Kenneth Stiert wrote in his report.

About 10 minutes later, officers arrested Adkins on West Water Street during a traffic stop, Capt. Eric Hipp said earlier. The defendant was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and failure to give a breath sample.

Norwalk Law Director Stuart O'Hara said Tuesday he had no further information on the rape case.

Adkins is scheduled to appear for a Norwalk Municipal Court preliminary hearing Tuesday. He could waive his right to the hearing and face a possible grand jury indictment.

On May 15, Adkins was fined $25 for a public nuisance charge for an April 30 incident. On Sept. 4, he was fined $100 for an Aug. 14 disorderly conduct incident.

In 2004, Adkins was convicted of four counts of passing bad checks for separate incidents in October and December 2003.
