Driver falls asleep, hits trooper's cruiser

MILAN A state trooper and the Pennsylvania driver who hit his cruiser early Friday morning refused treatment for minor injuries after an Ohio Turnpike collision. Trooper Ken Grier of the state Highway Patrol's Milan post was sitting in his car facing south in the crossover with his headlights activated while monitoring eastbound traffic. Sarah N. Powers, 20, said she fell asleep while going about 70 mph heading west near milepost 119. Troopers said the woman's 1990 Buick Lesabre went off the left side of the road and hit Grier's cruiser and a concrete barrier. The incident happened about 3:10 a.m. The Buick sustained severe damage while the patrol cruiser, a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria, had heavy rear end damage. Troopers had both cars towed from the scene.
