New machine trade class offered

AVERY - EHOVE Ghrist adult career class is offering a new program to help boost a decline in the pool of employees skilled in machine trades. Machining technology is the new full-time program designed to prepare students for entry into the job market as machinists and to prepare the career-minded student to become proficient in a number of skills used in machine shops. Instruction covers programming and basic set-up and operation of manual and CNC machines, blueprint reading, shop mathematics, machine tool theory and safety. This program will encompass the following areas:

Machining technology is the new full-time program designed to prepare students for entry into the job market as machinists and to prepare the career-minded student to become proficient in a number of skills used in machine shops. Instruction covers programming and basic set-up and operation of manual and CNC machines, blueprint reading, shop mathematics, machine tool theory and safety. This program will encompass the following areas:

EHOVE 646-hour class will include:

n Applied mathematics

n Computer applications

n Blueprint reading

n Precision measuring

n Cutting tools and machine-ability of materials

n Turning and milling lab

n Theory of CNC machining and CNC turning and milling lab

n Safety training.

Classes will be held 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursdays from Jan. 28 to Nov. 25. Also covered will be OSHA 10-Hour general industry training, employability and customer service.

Prerequisites: High School Diploma or GED and a passing score on the career test.
