Pet show

CLYDE - A new holiday best-dressed pet show will be held as part of Winesburg Christmas Weekend in Clyde at 2 p.m. Saturday at the North Main Street Clyde fire station.

There is a $2 entry fee. Pet owners must be 18 years and older.

Registration has been extended to Saturday. Contest organizers will sign up pets from 1 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the fire station.

Pet owners can also pre-register pets until noon Friday at Mary's Pampered Pets, The Clyde Enterprise, and The Groomer's Corner, in Clyde.

There will be ribbons for small, medium and large dogs, plus one for cats and miscellaneous pets. There will be participation ribbons and a trophy for best overall dog.

All pets must attend in holiday attire and be in a cage or on a leash.

The event is part of Winesburg Weekend which begins with a parade at 6:30 p.m. Friday, with events running through Sunday.

Ski club

PORT CLINTON - The Sandusky Ski Club's holiday party is at 5 p.m. Saturday at the home of president Lisa Johnson, 1499 N.W. Catawba Road, Port Clinton. Those attending should bring a dish to share. Call (419) 797-2311 for details.

The club will then meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday and Dec. 17 at the American Legion, 3615 Hayes Ave., Sandusky.

Holiday concert

WAKEMAN - Morman Funeral Home hosts its fourth annual free holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at 16 Cooper St. in Wakeman. A string quartet from Oberlin College will perform and refreshments will be served.

Star gazing

SANDUSKY - The Sidney Frohman Planetarium, located to the rear of Sandusky High School, has "A Christmas Story" program at 2 p.m. each Sunday through Dec. 23. Call (419) 621-2761 for details.

Firelands Computer Club

This club will meet Monday at the First Presbyterian Church, 21 Firelands Blvd., Norwalk.

Social time and refreshments will be at 6:40 p.m. with time to visit before the main meeting which runs 7 to 8:30.

Sally de Forest Chapter

Daughters of the American Revolution, Sally de Forest Chapter, will meet at noon Thursday, Dec. 13, at Berry's Restaurant in Norwalk to assemble Christmas gifts for residents of Sandusky Veterans Home. This will be a one-hour lunch time meeting. For more information, call Mary Stewart at (419) 668-8031.

Toy collection

NEW LONDON - The Rotary Club and The Gift Box are collecting toys and financial donations for the Toys for Kids campaign.

Those in the New London area wishing to sign up their children for the program should stop by The Gift Box at 49 Railroad Ave. or call (419) 929-4438 as soon as possible. Financial contributions and new unwrapped toys can be left at The Gift Box or either of the New London branches of National City or Sutton Bank by Dec. 14. Last year 80 children received toys.

In Collins, members of Collins Boy Scout Troop 242 are collecting toys and food for children in the Western Reserve school district. Collection boxes are located at local businesses and the schools until Dec. 9. Last year they helped 58 children.
