Kids: Do you have what it takes at the charity stripe?

Now's your chance to prove it.

The local round of the Elks National Hoop Shoot Free Throw Program will take place Saturday at the Ernsthausen Community Center. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the center.

More than 3 million youngsters age 8 to 13 participate each year in the free thrown contest. Depending on their performance, they advance through local, district, state, regional and national levels.

One boy and one girl in each of the three age categories (8 to 9, 10 to 11 and 12 to 13) will win a national title at the finals in Springfield, Mass. The top six national finalists' names are inscribed in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

Boys and girls in the 8 to 9 age category may shoot four feet in front of the regulation foul line.

Contestants must be 8 years old as of April 1, 2008.
