Walmart guard shot, suspect arrested

A security guard working at the Walmart store near Easton Town Center was shot and robbed of his work vehicle early this morning.

A 29-year-old man was arrested by Columbus police a short time later and charged with aggravated robbery.

Gerald Wheeler, an employee of Securitas Security Services USA, was in his marked 2011 Ford Ranger in the Walmart parking lot at 3900 Morse Rd. when a man approached him about 1:30 a.m., police said. The man shot Wheeler and stole the truck.

Wheeler was treated at a local hospital.
