A Norwalk man's blood-alcohol content (BAC) level tested more than twice the legal limit in connection with a local accident early Wednesday.
Michael J. Smith, 42, of 10 Leander Way, was charged with driving under the influence and a stop sign violation. The charges stem from a one-vehicle crash at the intersection of Gallup Avenue and Old State Road investigated by Norwalk Police Capt. Erie Hipp.
Smith was eastbound on Gallup about at 12:20 a.m. Hipp, in his report, said the driver failed to stop for the stop sign, attempted to turn left onto Old State and went off the east side, which caused both tires to deflate.
The driver then hit a road sign and guard rail, the officer said.
Police estimated Smith was going 40 mph in the 35 mph zone.
Smith's BAC tested at .161 percent, Hipp said. The legal limit for drivers in Ohio is .08 percent.
