Cops recover stolen car abandoned in Wakeman

Vehicle was unlocked with the keys in it.

Village police recently recovered a car stolen from a rural Collins property.

The Wakeman Police Department discovered a 2011 Toyota Camry was at the at the Wakeman Public Library on Pleasant Street about 9:35 p.m. Monday. Chief Tim Hunker said officers ran the license plate when they saw the car parked after hours and determined it was stolen from Vine Road.

"He (the owner) was visiting somebody there. He's from Huron," the chief said.

"It was stolen early Sunday morning," Hunker added. "It was unlocked and the keys were in the vehicle. There was a quarter tank of gas when the vehicle was stolen."

Police contacted the car owner and had the vehicle towed from the scene.

The stolen vehicle incident remains under investigation.
