DANBURY TOWNSHIP -- The Sandusky Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a three-vehicle injury crash that occurred Friday at 8:38 a.m.
The crash occurred on Ohio 163 east of Church Road in Ottawa County's Danbury Township.
The first driver was 57-year-old Bruce W. Peterson of Port Clinton. He was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Peterson was wearing his seat belt and received minor injury. He was treated at the scene by Danbury Fire and EMS. His truck sustained functional damage and was driven from the scene to Don's Body Shop in Marblehead.
Second driver was 78-year-old Norbert E. Monak of Marblehead. He was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala. Seat belt usage is unknown and his front air bags were deployed. He was transported from the scene by Danbury Fire and EMS to Port Clinton's Magruder Hospital. He was later transported by Life Flight to Toledo St. Vincent Hospital. His vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed to Don's Body Shop in Marblehead.
The third motorist was 20-year-old Justin Tyson of Oak Harbor. He was driving a 1998 Oldsmobile Aurora. He was wearing a seat belt and the vehicle's front air bags deployed. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Danbury Fire and EMS. His vehicle sustained disabling damage and was towed to Don's Body Shop in Marblehead.
Peterson was eastbound on Ohio 163. He stopped behind a vehicle that was stopped waiting for westbound traffic to clear so they could turn left into Skipper Marina and Resort. Monak was eastbound behind unit Peterson, failed to stop, and struck Peterson in the rear. Tyson was eastbound behind Monak, failed to stop, and struck Monak in the rear.
Justin Tyson was cited for Failure to Stop in an Assured Clear Distance Ahead and Driving Under Suspension. The crash remains under investigation.
Danbury Township Police Department and Danbury Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
