BERLIN HEIGHTS - A Wakeman man faces a bond hearing Tuesday in connection with an assault at an East Ohio 113 business Saturday.

A 34-year-old Berlin Heights woman accused David W. Gilbert Jr., 37, of 19 North St., of pulling her out of his truck while she was getting cigarettes, Erie County Sheriff's Capt. Paul Sigsworth said.

The woman said she was knocked out after being thrown against a nearby wall. She further accused Gilbert of being on top of her and slapping her after she regained consciousness, Sigsworth said.

The victim sustained bruises on her right arm and hand, lower left eye, left arm and left breast.

Gilbert, when reached by telephone, told a deputy there was an argument "and nothing else," Sigsworth said. The deputy accused Gilbert of sounding intoxicated. He prohibited the suspect from being on the victim's property or calling her.

On Sunday, Gilbert went to Fisher-Titus Medical Center for treatment of his injured hand, Sigsworth said. He currently is in custody at the Erie County Jail on a first-degree misdemeanor assault charge.
