There’s the old joke about why the chicken crossed the road.

In the case of an incident Monday in Norwalk, the animal was a goose — and it didn’t make its destination. Police said a Norwalk driver admitted to intentionally hitting a goose “that was crossing the roadway” in the parking lot of Norwalk Furniture.

At 6:07 p.m., a Monroeville resident reported seeing a red Ford Escort speeding through the rear parking lot of Norwalk Furniture and “purposely striking a goose that was crossing the roadway,” according to Norwalk Police Officer Kenneth Stiert’s report.

Police located the driver and identified him as Brandon M. Leslie, 24.

“Mr. Leslie readily admitted to running over the goose because it was in his way. While speaking with Mr. Leslie about the complaint, he became agitated and began verbally abusing me,” Stiert said.

Leslie was issued summonses on cruelty to animals and verbal abuse of a police officer.

Please make an example that other living things are not in our way...we ARE in theirs!

Come on animal lovers??? I was just in Minnesota and up there they are deciding how much longer to extend the beloved "Canadian Geese" hunting season. I could care less about them good for nothing but crapping everywhere, stomping/eating crops and well.... beyond that.. plain oh'messy nasty foul birds.. and as far as we're in there way?? If it wasn't for the human race controlling the predator animals, the geese would be a thing of the past.

arnmcrmn

over populated, dirty birds.

itsnotme

There is a huge difference between hunting and deliberately running something over. I'm certainly not a goose fan, but this was a complete jerk move!

truckin

Ya??? As for bumper or bullet..what's the difference?

itsnotme

Seriously, if you cannot see the difference between hunting and deliberately running over an animal, there is something wrong with you. Besides, isn't it illegal to hunt Canadian geese in Ohio anyway?
There was no reason for this...it was just mean.

asphaltcowboy86

It is legal to hunt Canadian geese. It is not a state by state law. The Federal government regulates the season and bag limits.

dogmama2

Truckin you show exactly what is wrong with the human race! We are here to share this world and all the human race has EVER done is ruin it! The geese would not be extinct you fool because NATURAL BALANCE would have occured all along. Yes I am not a big fan of hunting but the point is that this "man" felt he had the right to just take a life...you are just ridiculous in your statements.

truckin

Tired of all the "here to share" views, Earth as one stuff.. When is the last time you opened your refrigerator to the local animals? Wrote a blank check to the forestry. Do you eat meat? Do you eat veg's? Do you write with a wooden pencil? Everything is living and breathing. Heat or cool your house using earth's fossil fuel? Even walking, unless you walk around barefoot, live in a cave, and eat dirt, who are you.

dogmama2

I do open my refrigerator to animals, volunteer at the dog pound, I recycle, I don't waste paper and electricity, I do eat meat, but I try to only buy meat and veggies locally, use very little canned goods and I try to buy from companies NOT destroying the earth. I do not use air conditioning and we use electric and gas to heat house only when it is so cold not another blanket will help. I, sir, do believe what I say.

truckin

Why is it, i give another point of view and ask a very simple question and state facts on other US states value of these foul birds, which differ than those of animal bleeding hearts here in Ohio? are so many others wrong? are so many like me who could actually give a rats butt about these foul birds, wrong? instantly get just slam comments and no real answers. What makes you sooo right and others and i sooo wrong?

truckin

better yet.. What makes my thoughts so "bad" and yours so "good"? I am sure when it comes down to the real issues of life, respect and giving, i rank pretty high. But a stupid messy bird or like a cop shooting a wounded cat.(some of them comments) Much more important things to worry about.

itsnotme

Again, shooting a cat to put it out of its misery and deliberately running over a goose is comparing apples to oranges. I stand by my statement that this was a complete jerk move and was completely unnecessary.

itsnotme

In my opinion, not condoning deliberate cruelness toward other living things does not make me a bleeding heart. I'm saying equating deliberately running over an animal with a car and legal hunting is wrong. I'm sorry if you can't see the difference.

dogmama2

Thank you for stating my opinion better than I did. Just cause it is there and it bothers you doesn't mean you should kill it.

asphaltcowboy86

Well maybe if they extended the season and increased the bag limit it that would help with the over population. Hunting is a vital element in maintaining healthy animal populations.

itsnotme

I agree...while I don't really like hunting, I completely understand that it is a necessary thing to avoid over population. Again, legal hunting and running something over intentionally are entirely different.

asphaltcowboy86

Personally I really think the NPD has more to worry about than this.

truckin

Ya but see, busting for a goose getting run over is a "easy" public trophy, and revenue, while stopping the massive amount of drug traffic by our mostly unemployed welfare recipients means children without parents (no matter how worthless), over-crowded jails all resulting in action with no real cash flow and less votes.. The truth of the matter is nothing really happens unless a buck is made from it. That is why i like greedy people and one's who admit it. Atleast there honest and you know what to expect, but the phonies who say we care.. Yet come up with these grand ideas..?? but yet these "grand" idea need to be mandated by laws and force.. Go figure.... One simple example. Obama care, grand idea right?.. but if you don't participate you will be fined??? anyone else see this happening in other areas of there life?? What the heck does a worthless goose have to do with Public Safety?

44846GWP

A Canadian goose is a Federal protected bird when it is outside of hunting season. At no time can you run one over on purpose. Simple, end of story.

somescrewyname

it is a Canada goose not Canadian goose.

44846GWP

Whatever.

TheGravyWhisperer

...somescrewyname is right ...a Canadian goose is something you don't want to experience (I've determined that from hearsay, not personal experience)...

44846GWP

Lol!!

KURTje

Feel free to hit any opossum, groundhogs, or raccoons. Area agriculture people destroy them.

TOPGUN01

These Canada Goose are way out of control! We need open year round season on these!!

dogmama2

Why don't we just start running over anything that bothers us! Yeah thats it! The people who complain the most usually lose the least.
