A Norwalk woman died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle crash Saturday night.

The Milan post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating the crash, which occurred at 7:04 p.m. Saturday on the Ohio Turnpike at the 117.9 mile marker near the U.S. 250 overpass.

Kimala K. Lowry, 53, of Ohio 61 E., was driving a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis east when she lost control, traveling off the right side of the road and striking a guardrail end with the driver’s door, troopers said. The vehicle then traveled down an embankment and struck a ditch before coming to rest.

Lowry, who had been wearing her safety belt, sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by North Central EMS to Fisher-Titus Medical Center, where she later was pronounced dead, troopers said.

Her passenger, Scott J. Dunn, 48, of Ohio 61 E., sustained minor injuries and was not transported from the scene, troopers said. He, too, had been wearing a safety belt.

The Grand Marquis sustained severe damage as a result of the crash and was towed from the scene by Interstate Towing.

Alcohol use is unknown at this time, troopers said. The accident remains under investigation.
