NORWALK The following were the results of health department inspections of Norwalk-area food establishments and schools in September:

FOOD ESTABLISHMENTS

No violations

New London Recreation Park Concession; Grove Street, New London; operator, Village of New London (Sept. 1, regular inspection) No violations.

Walgreens; 4 E. League St., Norwalk; operator, Walgreens (Sept. 4, 30-day inspection) No violations. Inspector's comments: Facility is clean including back storeroom area.

The Child's Nest; 28 River St., Wakeman; operator, Diana Griffin (Sept. 4, regular inspection) No violations.

Norwalk Golf Properties Inc.; 2406 New State Road, Norwalk; operator, Gary Wilkins (Sept. 6, regular inspection) No violations. Inspector's comments: Facility neat and clean.

Main Street Carry Out; 203 S. Main St., Willard; operator, Joanne Kaylor (Sept. 17, regular inspection) No violations.

J.J.'s Pizza Ltd.; 24 Sandusky Street, Plymouth; operator, Jackie McKinney (Sept. 27, regular inspection) No violations.

C-Stop; 2761 U.S. 20 East, Collins; operator, C-Stop Inc. (Sept. 28, regular inspection) No violations.

Norwalk Beverage Center; 17 St. Mary's St., Norwalk; operator, RZ and R Enterprises LLC (Sept. 28, regular inspection) No violations. Inspector's comments: Operation in good order at this time.

Violations

Norwalk Elks; 2949 U.S. 250 South; operator, Norwalk Elk's No. 730 (Sept. 4, regular inspection) Violation: Raw shell eggs need to be stored on bottom shelves of reach-in cooler. In case of breakage, do not want to contaminate other product. This was immediately done; Violation: Clean floor area under hood system; Violation: Person-in-charge must be knowledgeable about food rules and procedures. Inspector's comments: Floor tiles in kitchen area have been repaired.

Jilliann's Food and Beverage Carryout; 78 Hyde St., Wakeman; operator, Jill Sheparovich (Sept. 4, regular inspection) Violation: In back room walk-in cooler, all foods opened and/or prepared must be labeled with the disposal date; Violation: Wing sauces in squeeze bottles must be labeled with the identifying item (i.e. hot sauce); Violation: Get sanitizer test kit to regularly check the concentration of the sanitizer in the three-compartment sink; Violation: Get lids for the trash containers to reduce fly infestation and food contamination. Keep lids closed when not in use; Violation: Clean inside of the cappuccino machine of powder. Inspector's comments: Prep and deli coolers in deli area which hold lunchmeat and salads were 45 degrees. Make sure they get below 41 degrees by March 2008. Also, date labeling of food in the two coolers must be only four days, due to the temperature being over 41 degrees.

Mama's Pizza; 1037 Myrtle Ave., Willard; operator, Donnamiller Development LLC (Sept. 4, regular inspection) Violation: Canned product is stored on shelves under air conditioner. Water is condensing and dripping on product; Violation: Person-in-charge must be knowledgeable about food rules and procedures; Violation: Hood system needs cleaned. There is an accumulation of dust and dirt; Violation: Lights in hood system need to work to provide minimum 50 food candles of light intensity in this area. Inspector's comments: Food employees doing a good job of food prep/handling.

Dynasty Lanes; 3105 Ohio 103 East, Willard; operator, Brent Willingham (Sept. 6, regular inspection) Violation: Replace water damaged ceiling tile in kitchen area. Inspector's comments: Facility neat and clean. Employee doing a good job of food prep/handling.

Sav-A-Lot; 20 Woodland, Willard; operator, John Missler (Sept. 7, regular inspection) Violation: Product is stored on floor in walk-in freezer. Elevate this product off the floor; Violation: Person-in-charge must be knowledgeable about food rules and procedures; Violation: Several fluorescent bulbs in meat cutting room need protective shielding.

Green Witch Suds and Sundaes; 13 E. Main St., Greenwich; operator, Michael and Darlene Meehan (Sept. 10, regular inspection) Violation: Several pieces of equipment not commercial grade. Remove or replace with units that have been approved by a recognized food testing agency.

Sun Beach Cafe; 13 Lake Holiday Lane, Willard; operator, Gus Stephens (Sept. 14, regular inspection) Violation: When cutting vegetables that are used for sandwich garnishes and touching buns, employee must wear gloves or use utensils. No bare hand contact of ready-to-eat food; Violation: Person-in-charge must be knowledgeable about food rules and procedures. Inspector's comments: Facility neat and clean.

Family Dollar; 109 Whittlesey Ave., Norwalk; operator, Family Dollar Stores (Sept. 19, regular inspection) Violation: Trash container in back room restroom needs lid to prevent insects from getting into the trash and then into the restroom (done during inspection). Inspector's comments: Facility is clean.

East of Chicago Pizza Co.; 25 Spring St., Plymouth; operator, Mark and Sean Adams Co. LLC (Sept. 21, 30-day inspection) Violation: Repair the floor beside the grease trap. Inspector's comments: Facility neat and clean.

VC Downtown Deli; Willard; operator, Judy Eckstein (Sept. 24) Violation: All single use articles need to be stored upside down prior to use. This was immediately done. Inspector's comments: Facility neat and clean. Employees doing a good job of food/prep handling.

B.P.O. Elks 1370; 209 Dale Ave., Willard; operator, Don Leininger (Sept. 26, regular inspection) Violation: Clean interior of microwave. Clean area around and inside tabletop grill.

Kenilee Lanes; 14-16 E. Seminary St., Norwalk; operator, Dwight Tkach (Sept. 28, regular inspection) Violation: The thermometer in the refrigerator reads 50 degrees even though it actually reads 35 degrees. Get a new thermometer in the refrigerator so you can regularly check the temperature; Violation: The upright refrigerator, freezer and microwave oven are not commercial grade. Replace these units with commercial grade equipment having an approved testing agency seal by March 2009; Violation: Clean the inside of the microwave oven and top of the microwave oven (done during inspection).

Waldo's; 46 Benedict Ave., Norwalk; operator, Robert Mullins (Sept. 28, regular inspection) Violation: The back wall of the kitchen has wall board broken and wall frame exposed. Time limit of 30 days to repair the kitchen walls to make it easier to clean.

CVS Pharmacy; 106 Milan Ave., Norwalk; operator, CVS Pharmacy (Sept. 28, regular inspection) Violation: Clean milk/egg cooler shelves and bottom of dirt/food particles. Inspector's comments: Facility is in good condition.

SCHOOLS

Violations

South Central Elementary/Junior High; 3291 Greenwich Angling Road, Greenwich; operator, South Central Schools (Sept. 10, regular inspection) Violation: Microwave oven not a commercial unit. Replace with unit that has been approved by a recognized food testing agency.

Norwalk Head Start; 92 N. Prospect St., Norwalk; operator, Head Start (Sept. 25, regular inspection) Violation: Make sure all equipment is commercial grade. Replace upright floor freezer with commercial grade having approved test agency seal by March 2009; Violation: Find the sanitizer test kit for the three-compartment sink; Violation: Get self-closing door springs on restroom doors to prevent insect contamination from the restroom to the kitchen. Inspector's comments: Utility sink has been installed. All equipment, floors and walls have been cleaned and sanitized.
