WAKEMAN The Wakeman Police Department raised about $113 for its general fund after a bicycle auction Thursday at the police station.

Chief Tim Hunker urges all residents to register their bikes with police.

"It seems like every year we get more and more bikes that are either left abandoned somewhere in town or just dropped off at the station. We do what we can to get the bikes back to the rightful owner, but it doesn't always seem work out that way," Hunker said.

There were 19 bikes sold at the auction. Between 15 to 20 people attended Thursday's auction and purchased bikes in a variety of conditions for between $1 and $31.

"Some were just pieces (and) parts," Hunker said, noting there were many mountain bikes.

The first auction was held in 2003 and raised about the same amount of money.
