An Ironton man will spend the next half century in prison following the rape of a minor.
Jeremy Curry, 23, of Ironton, pleaded guilty to a first-degree count of rape of an individual other than a spouse Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court. The charge was amended from a rape charge that carried with it a life sentence.
The complaint filed against him states that Curry “did engage in sexual conduct with a 2-year-old juvenile.”
Curry also admitted to five second-degree counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.
Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson recommended the maximum sentence — 11 years in prison for the rape charge and eight years for each of the pandering charges — for a total of 51 years in prison.
Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced Curry to the maximum sentence and ordered that he register as a Tier III sex offender for the rest of his life.
Curry was indicted in September and subsequently pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The man was found competent to stand trial in two mental evaluations.
Curry was represented by attorneys Philip Heald and Scott Evans.
