An Ironton man will spend the next half century in prison following the rape of a minor.

Jeremy Curry, 23, of Ironton, pleaded guilty to a first-degree count of rape of an individual other than a spouse Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court. The charge was amended from a rape charge that carried with it a life sentence.

The complaint filed against him states that Curry “did engage in sexual conduct with a 2-year-old juvenile.”

Curry also admitted to five second-degree counts of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.

Lawrence County Prosecuting Attorney Brigham Anderson recommended the maximum sentence — 11 years in prison for the rape charge and eight years for each of the pandering charges — for a total of 51 years in prison.

Judge D. Scott Bowling sentenced Curry to the maximum sentence and ordered that he register as a Tier III sex offender for the rest of his life.

Curry was indicted in September and subsequently pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity. The man was found competent to stand trial in two mental evaluations.

Curry was represented by attorneys Philip Heald and Scott Evans.

Alice Reffitt, 21, of Ironton, was indicted in November on related charges of first-degree complicity to rape and second-degree pandering obscenity involving a minor.

She also pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity and was found incompetent to stand trial. The woman is being held in the Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare in Athens with attempts to restore her to competency.

In other cases on Wednesday’s docket:

• Andrea Ross, 24, of 2200 Woodland Ave. Apt. 12, Ashland, Ky., admitted community control sanctions violations that she failed to report to the adult probation department since May 2012.

Bowling sentenced the woman to treatment at Mended Reeds.

• Travis Gentry, 23, of 417 Solida Road, South Point, was arraigned on a fifth-degree count of breaking and entering, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Bowling set bond at $10,000 own-recognizance and set a pretrial for Aug. 7.

• Jeffrey Wallace, 52, of 301 S. Third St., Ironton, was arraigned on a bill of information of fifth-degree escape, to which he pleaded guilty. Wallace also admitted a CCS violations.

Judge Charles Cooper sentenced the man to six months in prison for each offence, to be served consecutively, for a total of one year in prison.

• Steven Douglas, 30, of 1017 County Road 52, Ironton, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of fifth-degree receiving stolen property.

Cooper scheduled sentencing for July 31.
