The annual Norwalk Lions Club Fourth of July Parade Thursday featured candy, refreshments, fire trucks, bands and various groups.
But Norwalk resident Samantha Cooper’s sons, 9-year-old Nathan and 11-year-old Evan, admired the National Guard parade participants most.
“I just like how they serve for our country,” said Evan, an incoming Main Street School sixth-grader.
Nathan, a Pleasant Elementary third-grader, said he wishes to join the Army but Evan said the Armed Forces are not part of his future plans.
Cooper’s nephew, 10-year-old Noah, a fifth-grade student at Edison, said he’s not sure whether he will join the Armed Forces.
The event paid homage to our country. “God Bless America” rang out and a group of youngsters rode American-flag adorned bicycles. Chairs on the sidewalk were adorned with American flag colors. A person dressed as the Statue of Liberty waved to the crowd.
Norwalk resident Diana Neiding said seeing all the children was her favorite part of the parade. She sat under a tent with her mother, Joy Funk, of Norwalk, and her stepfather, Corwin “Hap” Funk. Neiding said her mother’s church set up the tent to protect them from the elements.
Darlaine Nestor, of Norwalk, hadn’t attended the parade for a few years due to other commitments. Nestor said she was “really impressed” with the up-to-date, well-maintained firetrucks. She added the honor guard looked sharp.
