SANDUSKY Family and friends of Matt Vaccaro are planning a benefit for him Nov. 4 at the American Legion Post 83 on Hayes Avenue in Sandusky.

On Aug. 24, Vaccaro was diagnosed with Grade 4 cancer of the brain. He had surgery on Sept. 6 at the Cleveland Clinic to remove the tumors, but still needs to undergo chemo and radiation therapy.

Doctors are hopeful that with his young age and good health, he will be able to lead a productive life. Before his diagnosis, Vaccaro worked as a sales consultant at Kasper Toyota/Scion and was quite active and recently won an award as District Champion of the Toyota Tundra Walk Around.

Since his diagnosis, he has not been able to return to work at Kasper Toyota/Scion where his position is being held for him. He is facing at least six weeks of traveling back and forth daily to the Cleveland Clinic for continued treatment. His wife, Kim, is trying to work as much as possible to support herself, Matt and their 4-year-old son, Logan. Kim, too, will have to take off time to get Vaccaro to his appointments, putting more of a financial stress on the young family.

The American Legion has donated their downstairs hall to host this benefit and Kasper Toyota and the entire Kasper Auto Group have also made generous contributions to help bring this benefit together.

Tickets cost just $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Supporters will enjoy drawings, raffles, music and food. All proceeds will go to the family to help pay the growing medical bills.

Private donations can be made at any Key Bank or Vacationland location in care of "The Matt Vaccaro Fund."
