My good friend the Norwalk Public Library is asking for community support to renew a tax levy. This levy is vital for the library to continue operations at its present level and doesn't leave much room to expand any of its several services. Actually, I can't call the library "my good friend" only, since it is a friend of everyone in the community and I don't have a monopoly.
Much of my history and genealogy research is done at the library and I can testify to the high volume of traffic which uses all of the several excellent facilities. I realize that many people flinch at the mention of taxes, so remember on Nov. 6 that this is only a renewal of an existing levy which expires soon.
I ask voters in the Norwalk City School District to help our mutual friend the public library to keep on with "business as usual." Remember that Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes once wrote "With taxes men buy civilization." How civilized would our community be without our public library?
