A Baseline Road man was killed late Sunday night -- an apparent victim of a violent attack.
Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard said deputies were called to 4012 Baseline Road, Apt. 3, shortly after 10 p.m.
"When officers arrived, we found a man down at the residence, just outside of Celeryville," the sheriff said.
"Deputies, along with rescue squads, quickly determined there was a death at the scene," Howard added.
The victim's identity has yet to be confirmed, Howard said Monday.
"This was an extremely violent crime scene," the sheriff said.
Border Patrol interpreters and officers from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation also assisted at the scene.
"Our detectives are also working the investigation," Howard said. "We will continue this investigation. There is significant secondary work to do along with interviewing potential witnesses."
Officers worked all through the night.
"The body has been sent to Lucas County for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death," Howard said.
"The young man is a foreign national," is all the sheriff would say about the man's identity.
No suspect or suspects have been arrested.
Howard said the crime scene was one of the most violent he's seen throughout his entire law-enforcement career.
"There were obvious signs of struggle," he added.
Huron County Chief Deputy Ted Patrick also responded to the scene and described what he saw.
"The victim was found face down in a pool of blood," he said. "There were signs of struggle."
Patrick said officers were interviewing farm workers who reside in the area as potential witnesses.
Patrick said the bulk of the investigation is being handled by a number of deputies, but as the process moves forward two detectives will likely be assigned the case.
Authorities haven't determined the cause of the struggle at the crime scene.
"We're hoping to determine that as we continue to interview people," Patrick said. "We'll continue to gather more information and details."
