Brown Blawg - Frye being traded?

Rumor has it this morning that the Browns are in the midst of a trade that will send Willard native Charlie Frye packing. I have not been able to confirm the rumor, though I suspect it is legitimate. The team plans to bring back quarterback Ken Dorsey, a mentor for first-round pick Brady Quinn, today, so a roster move must be made. If a suitor cannot be found, Frye might be cut. Or, if Cleveland wants to buy more time, they might cut fill-in punter Paul Ernster, since regular punter Dave Zastudil said Monday he thinks he will be ready to go this Sunday.

Frye looked lost at quarterback Sunday in the 34-7 loss to Pittsburgh, something that should not occur in a third-year player. One possible destination is Atlanta, which would be a good change of scenery for Frye. The Falcons’ offensive line is built for a mobile QB, and with Michael Vick out of the picture, they need one. Although Frye will probably be sad to leave his hometown team, any team at this point is better than the Browns. Cleveland is in for a long season.

The Browns are probably not ready to throw Quinn to the wolves. So, they can either start Derek Anderson, who also was unimpressive against the Steelers on Sunday but not as pathetic as Frye. Or the Browns can start Dorsey, allowing him to take his knocks and preserve Anderson as a future backup for Quinn.

It’s a sad end for Frye in Cleveland. I thought he had a lot of potential. But the effort and performance I saw Sunday made me realize the potential is gone — at least with the Browns. It made me wonder what Frye and company have been working on since last season ended.

I’ll update my blog when I learn more about Frye’s status.

Thank God...I think Brady can handle the offense just fine...He's a likeable kid and an excellent quarterback...More than I can say about Frye Guy. So long Charlie.

Frye to Seattle...

I don't think the Browns should rush Brady Quinn, remember Tim Couch. The Browns line didn't appear to do well against the Steelers and that is where I put the blame. Oh well, I am Cowboys fan anyway.

Goodbye Charlie...

For those who can't click onto the link, Frye's been traded to Seattle.
I would have liked it if Charlie succeeded in Cleveland, but it just didn't work out. Good luck in Seattle Charlie.

Will miss you Charlie, you gave it your best shot. I dont think anyone has the right to cut you down, after all were all human beings and noone is perfect. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Who cares!!!!!! The Cleveland Clowns should just forfeit the season and work on finding a new city. They suck as usual!!!!!!! The owners are just using them as a giant tax write off. I say let them suck in another city. Bye Bye Clowns!!!!!!!!!

This is the best thing that Charlie could hope for. Get to a winning team and be able to work on being a QB instead of a pawn waiting to be replaced by the almighty Quinn. Now he doesn't need to be looking over his shoulder every day and wondering how many plays he has before being yanked.
Cleveland fans will get what they want once again and they will be high in the draft next year too. Oh wait a minute, they already took the almighty with next years pick. Will they ever learn that QB controversy never wins games. I wonder who the great fans of Cleveland will be chanting for in two years when they are still at the bottom of the league since Romeo will be gone and they will yet again re-inventing a football team. Charlie will be much better off. He just needed a situation where he could relax and play instead of wondering from day to day if he is playing or not. Since he is there to be the back-up, at least he knows his role. Go ahead Romeo, Keep flipping coins. Hows it working so far???

stupid willard ...

hey new seattle fan, what are you going to be next? norwalkflagfootballfan, because that is the next stop for Charlie. It is unfortunate, it was nice to have a local to root for, but anybody who knows anything about football (obviously you are blinded by your charlie poster) knows he is horrible. Not as a person or a football player, but as a professional football player. It is great to be proud, he was a good college player and the experiment was fun while it lasted, now move on.

The Browns will never be any good as long as they continue to bow to the whims of the disgruntled fans. If you want a future you better hope that Brady Quinn get sat on the bench for the entire season so he can watch and learn. The Browns don't have a chance this year with or without him so don't screw him up. I will sat it again, Carson Palmer sat on the bench his first year without any playing time, and now he is a top rated QB. Amongst other things the coach was waiting until he had all of the peices and Palmer was ready. If you put Quinn behind this terrible line he is going to get put on his hind side, especially when they play the Steelers. And one bad outing from him and the Brows fan will be booing him too.

Stupid Willard People,
Obviously you must be smarter than the Seattle Seahawks to know how terrible Charlie is. Damn, they are going to pay him over a million dollars for nothing just this year. Seems your name fits you to a tee. Just replace the name of the town to fit where you live. Looks like the seahawks want to keep "the experiment" going at a decent price. I was only kidding about you being smarter than the seahawks.

Re: New Seattle...

You took the words right out of my mouth. Everyones been begging to see the Almighty Brady and he's gonna end up being just as "bad" as Frye because he's gonna dealing with the SAME horrible O-line. But of course it's easy to trade one QB than to trade a whole line who everyone knows is going to end up being the worst in the league if they keep it up...

If they would keep someone long enough to actually play with the team, perhaps they could win. It's not the players' fault they suck. They just can't even learn to play together. They should keep the same people for a while. And I don't know lots about football...I just get stuck watching it with my husband...but even I can see that that's the problem.

1996 Browns... ...

Now, there was a team!

Well, now Charlie has a chance at a career.Or maybe this Holmgren guy doesn't know anything about quarterbacks. He would certainly have had a career ending injury if he stayed in Cleveland. Anderson will be just as bad and when Quinn is forced into action, he'll be worse. I'll get a lot more done this fall because I won't be watching any Browns games. There's not much chance that they'll win a game against a division team.

Humanoid (Anonymous)

Charlie Frye is below average. This trade is no big deal except for the local tie in. On the flip side Frye will be a backup NFL quarterback, not a bad life.

SteelersFan (An...

But Holmgren has coached some of the best QBs at one time or another, Steve Young, Joe Montana, and Bret Favre. Obviously he something worthy of him for the backup position. Apparently he feels that charlie can work into the spot in case of emergency. And I am rooting for Seattle to make it to the big game so he can stick up his middle finger and show all of you Cleveland Fans "who's number 1"....lol That is of course after the Steelers beat them in the Super Bowl(legitimately this time)

SteelersFan (An...

Ooops, I guess I was wrong, Dere Anderson is the answer to all of the Browns problems. I would have never believed it had I not watched the beat up on the Bengals defense today.

clay (Anonymous)

Hey, I was wrong too. Charlie Frye was the only thing wrong with the Browns. They are on their way to the superbowl now. My only question is how did Anderson get beat out of the starting job?

mollym (Anonymous)

the win against cincinatti proved nothing about charlie. EVERYONE finally stepped up. I have never seen Braylon catch that many passes.. what happened to chuck was motivation for them all. I guarentee the brownies will suck again next weekend. They have one of these hopeful wins every year but it never sticks. In fact, I remember being at the game against the Dolphins 3 years ago, hearing everyone chant CHARLIE CHARLIE!! They shut the Dolphins DOWN!!!!! Anderson and Quinn don't stand a chance unless they get out, and get out soon!

SteelersFan (An...

I was just kidding. I know Charlie wasn't the problem. I think he would have done just as good, or better, had he been facing that crappy defense. But, Browns Fan will see Derreck Anderson as the savior, well until next week anyways..heheh. Then they will be chanting for Brady again....lol

browns 1986 198...

does anyone know what Marty Schottenhiemer is doing these days? He might be better than the Poster child for Jenny Craig they have for a coach now. Heck how about Bill Cowher!! They need a coach first then draft some talent. I am glad Charlie was released from his DEATH SENTENCE from the useless Browns. I felt so bad for him when he was drafted by them. Now things are looking up for him being a Seahawk. So they beat the Bungles.... Dont mortgage the ranch yet for the Super Bowl narrow minded Browns fans.... A long season ahead

Just Wondering ...

How so many people can hae so many strong thoughts on a topic that they know hardly anything about? They are quick to say they know whats best but yet I don't see them on the field playing the game, or even the sidelines calling the game. Funny, but since your all so quick to throw mud in the face of the one talented person to be produced from this area. I suppose you know what your talking about. The Browns will win them all now without Charlie...please can't wait to see pretty boy Quinn get a good hit. Anderson is no God either..he does fit in better with the rest of the browns..mediocre.
