Driver gets DUI after hitting back of woman's car

Crash happens at 4:50 p.m. in Norwalk Township.

An intoxicated driver faces two charges after he hit the back of a stopped vehicle.

Zachery E. Stimmel, 21, of Elyria, was charged with driving under the influence and failure to maintain assured clear distance in connection with the rear-end collision Saturday at the intersection of Ohio 18 and Ohio 601. The crash happened at 4:50 p.m. in Norwalk Township and was investigated by the state Highway Patrol.

Before the collision, the other driver, Breanne N. Stroempl, 23, of Fremont, was stopped in traffic on Ohio 18. Trooper Bryan Dail reported Stimmel was westbound and hit the rear of her vehicle.

Stimmel's blood-alcohol concentration tested at .107 percent, the trooper reported. The legal limit for drivers in Ohio is .08 percent.
