First Book event Friday

HURON - You might want to book the time between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. Friday. If you have a child, he or she may get their first book for free during this time in the Central Lounge at BGSU Firelands. First Book-BGSU Firelands and Starbucks will sponsor the concluding celebration of the "Give Kids a Break" community book drive that began Aug. 1. To date, more than 1,500 gently used books have been collected through donations from local residents. First Book-BGSU Firelands added 500 free new books to the community donations.

HURON - You might want to book the time between 5:30 and 9:30 p.m. Friday.

If you have a child, he or she may get their first book for free during this time in the Central Lounge at BGSU Firelands. First Book-BGSU Firelands and Starbucks will sponsor the concluding celebration of the "Give Kids a Break" community book drive that began Aug. 1. To date, more than 1,500 gently used books have been collected through donations from local residents. First Book-BGSU Firelands added 500 free new books to the community donations.

The celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with caricatures and face painting by Big Smile Entertainment, as well as crafts and projects.

At 7:30 p.m. in BGSU Firelands' McBride Auditorium, the Caryl Crane Children's Theatre will present "Alice in Wonderland," Lewis Carroll's children's classic dramatized by Charlotte P. Chorpenning. Students from nine schools in Erie, Huron and Sandusky counties will perform the play.

At 9:30 p.m., the First Book-BGSU Firelands books from the community will be separated by age groups, bagged and distributed to local children. Each bag will contain three to four new books with book plates and booker markers from First Books, as well as three gently used books from Starbucks.
