EHOVE receives certification grant

AVERY - EHOVE Career Center's culinary arts program received an Initial Grant of Certification for three years by the Secondary Certification Committee of the American Culinary Federation Foundation's Accrediting Commission (ACFFAC). The voluntary ACF credential, achieved by only four schools in Ohio, offers EHOVE Culinary Arts students another industry certification upon graduation from high school. Currently, students who successfully complete the program requirements earn their Pro-Start certificate. Pro-Start is an initiative of the National Restaurant Association that offers school-to-career training.

AVERY - EHOVE Career Center's culinary arts program received an Initial Grant of Certification for three years by the Secondary Certification Committee of the American Culinary Federation Foundation's Accrediting Commission (ACFFAC).

The voluntary ACF credential, achieved by only four schools in Ohio, offers EHOVE Culinary Arts students another industry certification upon graduation from high school. Currently, students who successfully complete the program requirements earn their Pro-Start certificate. Pro-Start is an initiative of the National Restaurant Association that offers school-to-career training.

Culinary or foodservice programs that are accredited by the ACFFAC have been reviewed against established standards. These programs undergo a self-evaluation and report their findings to the ACFFAC. The ACFFAC then authorizes a fact-finding team to visit the school to verify compliance with the standards.

The self-evaluation, the report of the fact-finding team, and the program response to the fact-finding report, are studied. The ACFFAC then grants accreditation to programs that meet the published standards.

Programs that earn certification from the Commission distinguish themselves from hundreds of other high school culinary arts and demonstrate a commitment to excellence.

A high school student, who graduates from an ACFFAC certified program, and who meets eligibility requirements that include passing a test administered by the National Occupational Competency and Testing Institute, can receive a certificate from the Commission. The certificate demonstrates that the student has met the required knowledge and competencies at an ACFFAC certified school.

EHOVE students work side-by-side with professional chefs, creating gourmet, artistically presented food. The added credential will serve students well on their path to future success in college and/or culinary careers. Chef Michael Edwards, certified culinary secondary educator, is the program instructor.
