Readers are skeptical of the new emphasis on standardized testing. The most recent online poll asked if people are satisfied with the scores their schools have recently received.

Thirty-nine percent of you said "The scores are okay, but I doubt whether they give any real indication of how well educated the kids are...."

A quarter offered approval and encouragement, responding "The schools have shown real improvement over the last five or six years, keep up the good work!" Almost as many, 24 percent checked the box next to "The scores may be better than they once were, but they're still not nearly good enough." More than a few, 12 percent, said "Schools get report cards, too?"
