Huron County Sheriff Dane Howard said Thursday he was thrilled with the response from first-grade classrooms around the county in the "name the new police dog" contest.

In early April, the sheriff's office sent each first-grade class in Huron County a letter requesting the students come up with a name for the new police dog. Five finalists were selected by the command staff at the HCSO.

Some of the classes submitted short videos in the naming process. The accompanying video shows some of the students' work.
