PERKINS TOWNSHIP - A domestic dispute this morning ended with a man committing suicide and the female victim being hospitalized after being shot in the back of the head.

The Perkins Township Police Department and Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a two-vehicle accident and a nearly simultaneous report of a man with a handgun between 8:15 and 8:20 a.m.

Milan Police Chief Jim Ward said the man began pursuing a woman in his vehicle in front of Kalahari Waterpark Resort, noting "that's where the shots were fired." The pursuit continued farther north up U.S. 250, where the man ran his truck into the woman's vehicle and went into a ditch, he said.

It's believed the man got out of his truck at some point and then shot the woman in the back of the head. She was transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center, where deputies said it appears she will survive.

"She evidently was shot and went to the Perkins Police Department. That's what I picked up from the radio," Ward said.

A deputy arrived just after the crash happened and the man had a .32 mm handgun in his hand. Authorities said the man put the gun to his head and threatened to commit suicide.

The deputy attempted to talk to the man as he backpedaled. He eventually went into a nearby corn field and shot himself, authorities said.

A Perkins dispatcher said relatives had not been notified as of press time, so police weren't releasing his name. Chief Tim McClung was unavailable for comment.

Ward said the man and were woman were involved in a Milan-area domestic dispute last week.

You people commenting must read between the lines. I read the same article and I understood it happened around kalahari. Why are you always blaming the paper? The reporter did his job with the information he had at that time, it never stated that it "did" happen at Kalahari. Stop blaming the reporter and the reflector. If you know the story so well why don't you become a reporer?

Re: Fed up (Ano...

It actually says: Milan Police. Also uses Chief Jim Ward as a quoted source. In addition, "the man got out of his truck at some point and then shot the woman in the back of the head." "She evidently was shot and went to the Perkins Police Department." She did this after someone got out of their truck and shot her in the back of the head. Driving from Kalahari to the Perkins Police Department after sustaining a gun shot to the head? Thats incredible! Unfortunately, thats not what happened. And "eventually went into a nearby corn field and shot himself" Which is also incorrect. Whats that full color picture of Fed Up? There was very little in the article that was correct. And using an uninvolved party as your primary source material? The point here..is what you do IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE STORY SO WELL. I'm sure the paper appreciates your continued support.

swiss family .....

i think that it is tragic that this ever happened in the first place .. but if this woman not only survived a gun shot wound to the back of her head , but was also able to drive , and be coherent enough to find the police station is truely incredible !!! she must be super woman .. the heck with Hillary Clinton , this woman sounds like she can handle anything , and she has my vote !!
