Authorities, including the U.S. Coast Guard, are looking for a man and his 12-year-old daughter who didn't return late Saturday after going kayaking.

Jonathan Francis, 30, and his daughter Viola, 12, had planned to paddle to the Edison bridge from Crystal Rock and back.

Late Saturday, Francis' girlfriend told authorities she walked the shoreline and couldn't find them.

At about 10:30 Sunday morning, two empty kayaks were located near Lightner Road in Ottawa County. A pair of shoes wear also found near the kayaks.

The coast guard and Erie County Sheriff's Office were contacted.

Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth said the coast guard conducted a water search, while the Margaretta Fire Department searched the shoreline. Neither agency found anything. The search was called off late Sunday afternoon.

Sigsworth said the case remains an "active missing persons investigation."

If anyone sees Francis and/or his daughter, they are urged to call 9-1-1 or the Erie County Sheriff's Office at (419) 625-7951.
