Archery program offered next month behind Ernsthausen

The sport of archery has been enjoyed by all ages for years through hunting and recreational use. Join nationally renowned Brian Marcum as he teaches how to properly and safely perform the skills of archery. Children ages 8 to 15 years are welcome to register. Classes will be held at 4, 4:30 or 5 p.m. behind the Ernsthausen Community Center starting Sept. 5. Fees are $22 for members and $27 for all others. Register in person at the Ernsthausen Community Center front desk by Sept. 2. Youth volleyball registration is currently being accepted for children in grades third through sixth. Registration is open to Norwalk city residents, Norwalk City Schools students, or Ernsthausen Community Center members. Cost is $24 for all participants who register by Sept. 9.

Youth flag football registration is currently being accepted for students in first through fourth grade. Play will be 6-on-6 or 7-on-7. Registration is open to Norwalk city residents, Norwalk City School students or Ernsthausen Community Center members. Cost is $24 for all participants who register by Sept. 9.

S.H.O.E. String Traveling Volleyball League S.H.O.E. stands for Sandusky, Huron, Ottawa and Erie counties. The four counties have come together to create a competitive league for those who did not make the junior high, freshman, junior varsity, and varsity leagues. For those who want to continue playing volleyball, they can join their community team and compete in the S.H.O.E. String league. There will be at least one team from each community and there will be no cuts from the league; every person who registers to participate will do so.

Any child who lives in Norwalk and the surrounding area are eligible to register with the Norwalk Parks & Recreation Department. Registration forms can be picked up at the Ernsthausen Community Center. The two divisions for the S.H.O.E. String League are junior high (students entering seventh and eighth grade) and the high school (students entering ninth to 12th grade). Games are scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 10. Cost is $25 for early registration through Aug. 25.

Paul Schneider Memorial softball tournament scheduled for Aug. 25 and 26. Two divisions will be available for this tournament. One division for upper and out of town teams, and a second division for church, middle, lower teams. Any team interested should attend the draw at 6 p.m. Aug. 23 at the Ernsthausen Center meeting room. Cost of entry is $125 per team. For further information contact Joe at (419) 663-6775 ext. 26.

Basic Sailing Course The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Watercraft invites friends and boaters to register for a three-day basic sailing class. The course will include classroom instruction as well as hands on sailing training. Topics to be covered will include rules of the road, risk of sailing, capsizing, care of equipment and more. Anyone 12 years old or older may register. The class will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 21 to 23. All classes will be held at the clubhouse/reservoir at Veterans Memorial Lake Park. Cost is $15 per person. All participants must register at the Ernsthausen Community Center by Sept. 14.
