Inmate attempts to harm himself

Inmate now 'on suicide watch'

A Huron County Jail inmate was transported to the hospital after he reportedly attempted to harm himself early Thursday.

The 34-year-old male prisoner tied a blanket around his foot and then around his neck, Huron County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ted Patrick said.

"Our jail staff observed that and stopped that," the spokesman said.

Sgt. Dave Soldano requested an ambulance respond to the jail at 12:51 a.m. North Central EMS responded.

"(The inmate) was taken to the hospital. He had some mental issues," Patrick said.

North Central transported the inmate to Fisher-Titus Medical Center, where he spoke with a mental health professional.

"He was checked for injuries. None were found," Patrick said.

The man now is under 24-hour supervision.

"He's on suicide watch," Patrick said.
