FAIRBORN - The 77th annual Ohio Association of Garden Clubs (OAGC) Convention was held July 23, 24 and 25 at the Holiday Inn in Fairborn. The theme of the 2007 convention was "Dragonfly Daze." The featured speakers for the event were Stephanie Cohen, author of the book The Perennial Garden's Design Manual; American Rose Society Silver Medallist Gladys Johnson created several floral designs while speaking; and Robert Glotzholder presented "Dragonflies for Gardeners."

FAIRBORN - The 77th annual Ohio Association of Garden Clubs (OAGC) Convention was held July 23, 24 and 25 at the Holiday Inn in Fairborn.

The theme of the 2007 convention was "Dragonfly Daze." The featured speakers for the event were Stephanie Cohen, author of the book The Perennial Garden's Design Manual; American Rose Society Silver Medallist Gladys Johnson created several floral designs while speaking; and Robert Glotzholder presented "Dragonflies for Gardeners."

Other highlights of the convention included both artistic and horticultural flower shows, workshops on a variety of garden themes, self-guided garden tours and award banquets.

The following members from the area attended: Wilma Greider and Donna Foss, Whispering Meadows Garden Club and Robin Wuertz, We'd Wacker Garden Club, Fremont; Kathryn Schwake, Town and Country Garden Club of Oak Harbor; Bill Jenne, Green Springs, RFD Garden Club; and Peggy Case, New London, Dirty Bloomers Garden Club.

Robin Wuertz was installed as the new regional director for Region 6 and will take office at the regional meeting in November. Peggy Case, state horticulture chair, conducted the state horticulture flower show for Ohio with 446 entries. Charlene Margetiak, of Norwalk, prepared a horticulture display about vermicullture (worm composting), representing Region 6. Region 6 includes OAGC garden clubs in Sandusky, Ottawa, Seneca, Huron, Lorain and Erie counties.
