Man, 23, gets 6 months in jail for having sex with 14-year-old

Defendant, who is getting married in June, likely will be on work-release program; defense attorney says victim didn't 'suffer any loss of innocence' with consensual sex.

A former Wakeman resident who had consensual sex with a 14-year-old village girl was sentenced to six months behind bars.

James E. Bolden, 23, will receive a reporting date to the Huron County Jail, where he's expected to be on the work-release program. As part of his three years of intense probation, he was fined $1,000 and must undergo sex offender counseling.

Even though Bolden is awaiting sentencing in Lorain County for a passing bad checks conviction, he wasn't eligible for a prison term because the court doesn't consider that case a conviction until the sentence.

Bolden pleaded guilty in early January to one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. In a plea agreement, the state dismissed a second, similar charge.

"I know what I did was wrong," said Bolden, who is getting married in June.

"This is a serious offense," Huron County Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer DeLand said. "The victim was rather young; she was only 14 years old."

"From what I've gathered, this was a fully mutual situation," Huron County Public Defender David Longo said. "I don't think she (the victim) suffered any harm or suffered any loss of innocence."

Longo said Bolden would do well under probation.

"He would do anything asked of him," Longo said.

Classified as a Tier II sex offender, Bolden must register his address every 180 days for the next 25 years. If he violates the terms of his probation, he faces 18 months in prison.

Correction: He WAS getting married in June.

Lol exactly my thoughts!

I'm really unsure why that picture is attached to my comment... Never even seen it before...

Now THAT's funny!

He could get married at work? Maybe on lunch or something. Lol.

wait wait wait wait.. sex w/ a 14 yr old and he gets a 1,000 dollar fine and a work release program????

Well hey chongo. Do you know the whole story?..I do not, and will admit, but who is to say this was just another classic case of a guy hooking up with a cutie at a drinking party, had sex and boom few days later learn of her age??? Not saying it is right.. Just FINIALLY society see's some of this kinda law violations are not from actual "criminals"

Second Opinion

society has cast aside absolutes which defines morality.
Those who don't know what this means are probably going to also be in the papers crime section before your short life is over. Sad,

"I don't think she (the victim) suffered any harm or suffered any loss of innocence."

Ok, I have to also comment on this. Sadly we see where our laws FAILED to protect this man. Why is it that the laws allow such loosers who I would have a choice word to describe her as a person who the Bible describes as a trapper, preying on those with high sexual emotions and chemistry to solve their own short comings or lack of self respect. Proverbs, the book in the Bible has a LOT to say about this type of female, she lost her priviledge to be called a woman or a lady. Her parents must be real loosers themselves.

What on earth is happening in Wakeman, is there something in the water that causes the people there to be strange, wicked and lawless?

So she was asking for it?

It's simple he's suppose to be the adult. But we see he can't handle that role. Hope this wasn't any one on here's child! 23-14. Come on now!

Have you people ever looked at some of these 14 year olds? I have never heard of a man who asked for ID to prove how old a woman was before having sex with her. I'm not saying that this man was right, however, the article clearly states that it was consensual sex. In other words, the girl (woman) agreed to it. Some of these girls have more mature bodies than someone 25 years old. (Must be the hormones from what they feed the beef and chickens and then we ingest into our systems)
