A 40-year-old Norwalk man is accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old female relative.
Thomas J. O'Donnell Jr., of 5144 U.S. 250, Lot 132, was charged with two counts of rape Friday in connection with incidents on July 4 and 22, court records show.
On Wednesday, a Bellevue Hospital emergency room employee reported examining a 12-year-old girl "who complained of sexual abuse by a family member" that started three weeks ago, Huron County Sheriff's Lt. Randy Sommers said.
"The child had been brought there by her mother," he added.
O'Donnell is accused of first raping the victim at his work in Sandusky and then reportedly victimized the girl twice later in Huron County, Norwalk Assistant Law Director T. Douglas Clifford said. He added that Erie County authorities might be pursuing charges against the suspect.
Erie County Sheriff's Capt. Paul Sigsworth said he spoke to detectives Friday, who currently weren't investigating a sex crime involving O'Donnell.
"We've had a number of cases involving him. Most of them were domestic related, I believe," Sigsworth said.
Sommers and investigator Jo Johnson, of Huron County Children Services, investigated the Huron County complaint. They turned the case over to the law director's office and, because of possible jurisdiction issues, the Bellevue Police Department.
"The sheriff's department did a very thorough investigation," Clifford said.
The girl, after being treated at the hospital, was released to the custody of her mother. "And the suspect is not in the household," Sommers said.
