The state Highway Patrol's Norwalk post charged two local drivers with driving under the influence (DUI) on the same day this weekend.

New London resident John D. Burnsworth, 38, of 3354 Prospect Road, was stopped by Sgt. Brian Gockstetter for speeding on Ohio 60 in New London. The trooper clocked Burnsworth going 66 mph in a 55-mph zone and stopped him at 12:25 a.m. Friday.

Burnsworth was charged with DUI and speeding. Gockstetter reported the driver's blood-alcohol content (BAC) level tested at .098 percent, just over the .08 percent limit for motorists in Ohio.

Norwalk resident Andy J. Hewitt, 32, of 285 1/2 E. Main St., was stopped by Trooper Thomas Halko, who warned him about driving with expired license plates. The traffic stop happened at 8:24 p.m. Friday on Prospect Street near League Street in Norwalk.

Hewitt, whose BAC tested at .117 percent, was charged with DUI, the trooper reported.

Two violations without criminal indicators or any kind of special equipment or pyschic visions, I'm impressed. I hope they were not hiding around corners and following patrons as they leave the bars, as is done in Norwalk.

Criminal indicators ? One was speeding and one was driving on expired plates. The traffic stops lead to a more involved offense. They don't need to sit on a bar to flush out Dui offenders.

They don't need to but they do sit on the bars,if you think i'm kidding go to charlies or wherever and just drink a few pepsi's and then leave and they will be on your @ss in no time for no reason.

And if you were only drinking pepsi and they pull you over what IS the big deal? If you have nothing to hide and you have NOT been drinking, what does it matter? Does it "waste your time"? Are you going to miss your curfew at home?

REAL CUTE! If your only drinking Pepsi for what reason do they have to follow you and pull you over anyway? I have alot of hobbies, but one of them isn't getting pulled over for entertainment value. Sounds like you have a few connections.

You are so right Warhol_89. I think the trick is to keep pulling them over till they get one. Ya no big deal, it doesn't matter, does it waste your time? Ah yea what would you call it? Who in their right mind wants to get followed(stalked) or stopped for no reason. Someone that knows someone? Can't think of anyone else. You hit it on the head.

ladydye: My problem is they sit on the bars, not everyone who goes in one comes out smashed like YOU think,I think they have other things they could tend to.
I know you would never think of this as harasment would you? well,I do,not that I go out drinking much and if I do I have a D-D,so don't get your panties in a wad at me.

Sweet! Great job troopers.

Seems pretty simple really, don't drive with a bal over .08 and you don't need to worry. Always amazes me how there's always more money for alcohol, but never for cab fare.

Whatever it takes to get the drunks off the road. An addict is an addict and alcohol ruins far too many lives. Alcohol is a recreation accepted DRUG. A Drug is a DRUG and an alcoholic is addict. How often is alcohol a factor is abuse and domestic violence? How many people were killed by drunk drivers this week? If it takes sitting outside and waiting for the alcohol addicts to come out....so be it. Entrapment is better than letting them kill someone.
