Gun show in Norwalk draws big crowd

Gun enthusiasts say education is the key

Local gun enthusiasts converged on the Huron County Fairgrounds this past weekend.

Norwalk resident Rick Austin, who had a table at this weekend's show and also teaches a concealed-carry course about three times per month, said it was great to see so many families attend the gun show.

"Times have really changed," Austin said. "Kids are here with their parents. Husbands are here with their wives. This has really brought a lot of people together. It's a family-oriented event."

Guns are often shown in the national spotlight in a negative fashion, something Austin said a little education can help prevent. "I think now, people are getting more informed," he said.

Guns do not kill people. People kill people. Spoons do not make you fat. People eating ice cream make them fat. Education and safety are the key. Handle guns and spoons correctly and you will not injury yourself. Hope this helps.

actually, swiss family, according to the fbi's database more people were killed in 2011 by a hammer (approx 496) vs assualt type weapons (approx 325). shoots down your theory.

Apples to oranges. Driving is a privilege that can be revoked, the bearing of arms is a right which cannot be taken away except through the amendment provisions spelled out in the constitution.


Good point. The first ten Amends. to the Constitution are not called: The Bill of "Privileges."

Remember: Only govt. can take away your rights. According to our Decl. of Independence they are God-given or natural ("inalienable").


If you sent a complaint out to God about those rights , exactly how long does it take to get a response ? ; )

The Government CAN NOT revoke your rights in an arbitrary manner.
The only time you lose your rights is when you are convicted of a crime.

How about felons ? They have had their rights to weapons revoked . Bearing arms is just a privilege of the Constitution . Nothing is ever guaranteed in the real world .

A CONVICTED felon loses the right to bear arms.
The key is they have BEEN CONVICTED of a crime.
As a law that is unconstitutional but not as part of the convicts sentence.

I have no problem with registeration of guns. I am for it. I am also in favor of a mental health screening and laws that prohibit felons from owning guns and cars.


Guns don't kill people. People die if a human points a gun at them, and the victim does not have a gun. Gun free areas such as schools are in invitation to a crazy person that decides to go out by causing death of innosence. If everyone had a gun, there would be no more mass killing. Period.


The purpose of a gun is to kill living things . That's it ONLY purpose . Spoons on the other hand are designed to put food into ones mouth . So , unless you modify the design of the spoon ( by sharpening it , for example ) then no , they are not similar at all . Hope this helps ; )))

With your same logic. Cars are meant to drive, McDonalds is meant to eat....yet both kill way more people than guns do each year. Fail again.


Totally agree with everything you have been saying! People need to wake up and show a little intelligence about the whole situation. No one is going to take their guns and personally I m really sick of hearing about the second amendment! If we never had it in the first place or if had been written more specific, we wouldn't be in this mess! I love my country more than most, but I don't think a piece of paper with outdated concepts should be "worshipped" like it is. It's time for reform considering this issue, like background checks and assault weapons banning. The last thing we need is more people toting guns, and bullets flying around by people who had more training to drive a car. Their is a huge difference in shooting a target than being in a stressful situation where people are the targets! I don't know about anyone else out there but I'm not proud of the fact that we have the highest crime rate and murders in the world, per capita, yet we have the biggest arsenal in the world. We are going backwards and I believe we deserve better than that!


How many guns were sold with no background check?

Some of the vendors were dealers and they did background checks as required by their firearms license. Others were private sellers and are not required to do background checks.


What's you point? people are selling their property.


If you don't check , then how do you know it's their property ? If I were trying to sell a stolen gun , guess where I would take it .


A background check wouldn't matter. Saying that I don't have a criminal record now doesn't mean that I won't later. Ted Bundy was thought to be a successful man before he was caught as a serial killer. That's why it took them so long to catch him-- his background seemed to be successful and that someone like him wouldn't have done what he did.

Wow Swiss, put a lot of thought in that phrase. Funny part is, got over 127 guns in my house and none of them have ever KILLED ANYONE! And guess what, they probably never will until some crazed maniac picks one of them up and kills someone. Besides, people without guns have no way of defending themselves from crazy people with guns. You could move to another country without guns, let me know how that works out for you. Timothy McVeigh didn't use a gun, and guess what! A hell of a lot more people died then if he would have used a GUN..


So , you are planning to sell your guns to crazed maniacs ,or you figure they might get stolen because you don't secure them properly . Awesome !
