Willard voters could see additional school levy on May ballot

1.5-mill, five-year levy would bring in about $275,000 to $280,000 a year.

For the first time since the 1970s, Willard City Schools does not have a permanent improvement levy.

That's because voters in November declined to renew the levy, with about 56 percent voting against it and 44 percent voting to renew the levy.

As a result, in May, voters might be asked to approve an additional levy to raise money for purchasing supplies and maintenance contracts for the upcoming building.

School board members will vote at their next meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 on whether to place the levy on the ballot.

If approved, the 1.5-mill, five-year levy would bring in about $275,000 to $280,000 a year, superintendent Jeff Ritz said. He added the money raised cannot be used for salaries. If voters approve the levy, it would cost the owner of a $100,000 home about $45.93, according to the Huron County auditor's office.

A story about this subject was published in the Reflector.

NEW posting id for an old poster......same habits of venacular and typing. He thinks he is smarter than the rest of the population. Some day he will get a reality check and realize that pride goes before the fall. Don't let him get to you, DC.....am sure you are a bigger man!

believe it

Are you referring to me? explain who you think I am?

Lillie Chaos

Why should I do that? You know who you are. This area is supposed to be a place for opinions and free speech but your degrading and judgmental comments are rude and offensive. You try being a little nicer to everyone and I will leave you alone. I don't want your house or car trashed or any issues at all for you or any family. You are not smarter than the rest of the world...BELIEVE IT. Judge not...etc etc.

believe it

I still think you have me confused with someone else. My previous name on here was "concerned citizen" which I haven't used in over a year. You're thinking of someone else, I promise you that. Let's put it this way...I'm not a doctor or dentist ;)

believe it

Not a teacher. Not related to any teachers either. Apples to oranges on houses and schools. Did I say all the kids are idiots? Nope, as I clearly stated earlier I'm talking about the ones that don't care about school, don't try, give the teachers trouble, etc. It's amazing how well they do while still putting up with these kids. You should move away from Willard, you obviously hate it.

Spotted_Toad

The only ones that have lost is the children, reminder it took 3 times to get the new school levy passed. They do recieve an education and more, when we see the examples in the school show our children that punishments are based on who you are. Once again the point is Willards tax paying citizens are slowly being reduced, the economy sucks, the dollar isnt going very far and now more tax levy's. Willard is righting million dollar checks on a thousand dollar budget. And once again if anyone dissagrees there idiots, bs... And if you go to pay to play our sports will have to end because more than 30% could not afford it. Get the silver spoon out of your mouth.

KURTje

ECOT.

believe it

ECOT is terrible.

Willard_man

I agree with you on that one, believe it.

believe it

I've never understood it and never will. Keep kids in school with their friends, peers, and where teachers can work with them.

DickChaney

Believeit, You must live in a dream world, I'll stay in Willard and you keep them blinders on and go look for Willie Wonka!

believe it

No dream world here, i'll continue to live here and support the schools and invest back into the community unlike you.

OneWhoReallyCares

The point is some of these people in these higher ranking positions or are on the right side of the $250,000 side don't get hurt with a tax increase like some families that are working two jobs and barely making ends meet. And now, the 2% payroll tax that hit all taxpayers and now you want more money to operate the schools. I will give credit where credit is due for better test results but believe me my children get there morals and work effort from home to begin with. Teachers are good but what we need is more taxpayers in this community and that takes something to draw them here. If you continue to tax people to death they will either not be able to make ends meet and end up on assistance or move to a community that does not tax their people to death. How many years in a row have we heart, enrollment is declining. Hello....the question should not be how do we get the few that are already paying a lot to pay more it should be looking at cost cutting practices and finding a way to draw more taxpayers to this community. I think people in this community, taxpayers, would also be a little more understanding if people in these school admin. positions we not so errigent and act as though the walk on water. These are the people that need to check their attitudes at the door and realize they need john taxpayer to help them out. So next time you pass a person in the hall I would suggest a little more humility. You never know if that person could be your swing vote.

believe it

errigent? Looks like the new school would be beneficial to you. Also, a new school would attract more people to Willard. What's something that a lot of families look for in a town? The Schools.

KURTje

Believe I did move away from Willard. Things like this & other reasons. Remeber Fazzios or the Rexall Drugstore?

believe it

Why do people always think that moving away is always going to solve their problems? Willard isn't the only district asking for levies, look at how many levies were voted on in the last election. It's going on everywhere.

KURTje

See...you stated earlier about leaving the area. I did do that years ago because imo a better place was found. Glad to leave that area. You've got other big problems besides the school too. That factored into the equation on my departure also.

OneWhoReallyCares

Believe It, you are the exact reason people vote these things down.Your name should be Dreaming It instead of Believe It. Your arrogance or should I say errorogance is the reason I would vote no. I would like to know how you are able to walk on the water you walk on. A new school draws people to a town, sure can. But you have taxes that are twice as high as a connecting city, good luck. At least we have a recreation center and an indoor pool for families to join. Oh yeah, you probably opposed that because it would be a place where you would have to interact with these kids you so much support but you would be too worried about how they dress or talk and passing your godly judgement as you pass them in the hall as well. You remind me of the guy in the picture, perhaps a name with a face now.

believe it

I go to that rec center you are referring to so that one just blew up in your face. I'm not passing any judgement, i'm just using my head and my education to bring facts and realism to this subject. Too many people just like to bash the school system and the people in it for no reason, just because they can when in reality Willard has one of the best systems in Huron county(the numbers prove it) so why keep bashing them and voting levies down? and if people vote a levy down because of things like this then they have bigger issues to deal with.

OneWhoReallyCares

Believe it, or not, I have voted for every school levy to date. My point is simple, when I voted for the new school (don't fall off your seat because I just said that) why would they not roll up a communication to the community that a working levy was following or add it to the voting then? Why, they knew it would not pass because you eat an elephant one bite at a time (first bite was getting the new school passed.) YOUR Education has nothing to do with common sense so stop trying to talk smarter than you are. As they say "it is not rocket science, it is common sense." Education does not make you better or smarter or a better human being. The most influential person ever was just a Jewish Carpenter named Jesus Christ. His greatest asset was humility. I think I will part and say take care my friend and I wish you well. I think we really both want the best for our community but we have different ideas on how to get that done. I just wish people would come together and have some humility during this time and stop saying we'll shove this down your throat no matter what the cost.

believe it

Glad you have voted for every levy, I have too and will continue to do so. And one of the meetings I attended there was mention that a levy was a possibility in the future(go to one of the community meetings, you'd learn something). And if you knew what I do you probably wouldn't be saying the things you are. Jesus has nothing to do with this debate so stop trying to act holier than thou.

Spotted_Toad

OneWhoReallyCares made an accurate assessment on this subject. As a parent with children in this District, and very much watches the way our school teachers and administrators interacts with our children. There are some very impressive teachers and administrators but others stick out like sour thumbs, over the past years I have watched how different our children are treated! We pass one levy for a new school and watch the school board go purchase themselves a new building that requires more money to renovate. For those that have the mentality that we are not watching the good ole boys mentality that think you’re above the ones that are actually righting the checks your wrong.

believe it

The school board didn't purchase themselves a new building, get your facts straight. First off it's an old building in downtown, and cost barely nothing to get. Secondly. they had to have their offices somewhere, and as noted several times in the paper the state wouldn't help pay for the space in the new building for offices. To put the offices in the new building we would have had to pay for it and it would have cost more to do it that way than purchasing the building they are in now.

Christian Schools and home schooling is growing everyday--why? People want to feel safe when their kids go to school. I honestly think home schooling via computer is becoming more and more accepted. People in Willard love their kids and care about their community just like the rest of the world. Taxes or no taxes mothers who can will stay home rather than work without the constant stress described in the media. Instead of car pooling we will see lesson pooling. Parents are trying to take responsibility for their child's education and welfare.

OneWhoReallyCares

Believe It, now you've got my attention. If I knew what you did I wouldn't be saying the things I'm saying??? Do you have fire that shoots out of your eyes and you lay golden eggs? Because that is the world you live in. Try walking in to that admin. building where the old sutton bank was and you walk in to an area where if it rains people will start drowning because their noses are stuck are up so high, perhaps that's where you work. Based on your comments that would not surprise me because your actions and "education" help you float above all other people on here. Lucky you, can I have your autograph, please. I'm sure the person in the back of the room at the board meeting with the dockers and GQ glassess on and looking down your nose at anyone that does meet up to your standards, I dare them breath my air floating around in your head. We are so lucky to be blessed with your presence. After second thought, perhaps we are like oil and water because I can see you have no humility and that is okay, we need people like you in the world because it makes me appreciate those that do. Please please tell me how stupid I am and how much more you know than I do, please.

believe it

Wow, the internet is serious business. Have you stopped crying yet? Go live your life instead of getting worked up about what someone says on a website. Pathetic.

Lillie Chaos

@ BELIEVE IT......there you go again being offensive. For someone who spouts such a superior intellect why do you feel it is necessary to be so rude?

believe it

The internet...where seriousness happens!!! Really though, calm yourself. As someone once said, don't get your panties in a bunch!

Lillie Chaos

I asked you to be nice.....I will leave you alone if you just try!!!!!!

believe it

I'm extremely nice...for example, I vote on levies to give my money to the schools. See, very nice of me!!
