Woman killed after car collides head-on with semi

Authorities unsure why her vehicle went left of center.

The Elyria post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred Tuesday morning on Ohio 83 between Ohio 303 and Law Road in Grafton Township AM.

Kimberly A. Blackley, 37, of Hilliard, was driving a 2012 Honda Accord south on State Route 83 at 9:27 a.m. when her vehicle travelled left of center for an unknown reason and was struck by a 2012 Freightliner semi being driven by Christopher M. Raatz, 52, of  Louisville, Ky., troopers said.

Both vehicles were heavily damaged and had to be towed from the scene by Jeff’s Towing and World’s Towing.

Blackley was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lorain County Coroner’s Office.

Raatz was transported to Medina Hospital by Grafton Township EMS for minor injuries.

Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, troopers said.

Elyria troopers were assisted at the scene by troopers from the Medina Post, Ohio Department of Transportation, Grafton Township Fire and EMS, Lorain County Coroner’s Office, Jeff’s Towing and World’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
