HURON - Why fly to Germany on June 23 or 24 when you can experience it in Huron?

The 10th annual Mulberry Creek Herbfair features many things German: A German buffet, German dancers, a nod to German castles.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 23 and noon to 5 p.m. June 24. It is organized by and will take place at the Mulberry Creek HerbFarm, a certified organic grower of herbs, miniature perennials and vegetable starts. The farm is at 3312 Bogart Road in Huron.

The programs on June 23 include Growing Herbs, wine tasting Tussie-Mussies, Sampling a German Meal (for $5, reservations required), Black Plague Herbs, Lemon Balm and Medicinal Iced Teas. There will be a medicinal herb walk with a nationally known herbalist and a tour of the gardens with the HerbFarm's owner. A Vienese cooking demonstration begins a slate of Sunday talks along with Herbal Dyeing, Leaf Printing in Clay and St. Hildegarde of Bingen. A final garden tour of the herbfarm's display beds will be led by the herbfarm owner. Everything but the German meal is free.

Herb, garden, food and German products will be available for sale from the artisans who have crafted them.

Admission is $5 per adult, while children will be admitted free. A free herb and full day of classes are included with each paid admission. Only service pets will be admitted.

To make your reservations for the German meal or for more information, call (419) 433-6126 and ask for Karen Langan.
