April O'Brien was very excited and overwhelmed as she was crowned Miss Vacationland 2013 Saturday night at the McCormick Junior High School Auditorium (Huron Playhouse) in Huron.

"I am very excited to work with Jackie Mayer, Miss Vacationland 1962, Miss Ohio 1962 and Miss America 1963," O'Brien said. "She is a great executive director and a wonderful role model. I have wanted to be Miss America since I was 3 years old."
O'Brien, 23, is the daughter of Patrick and LeeAnn O'Brien of Columbus.
She won a $1,500 scholarship for winning the crown and a $400 scholarship for being the interview winner. She said she has won in excess of $16,000 throughout her years of competition.
She is a graduate of Bethany College where she was valedictorian of her class with a 4.085 GPA (due to her outstanding performance of a 95 percent on her four-year exit examination which earned her extra/bonus quality points). She is pursuing her master's degree in education.
For the talent portion of the competition, O'Brien tap danced to "You and I Both."
O'Brien will represent Huron and the Vacationland area at the Miss Ohio Scholarship Pageant in Mansfield in June. The state winner will then compete for the title of Miss America.
Saturday's first runner-up, Erin O'Brien, 19, of Columbus (April's younger sister), will receive a $800 scholarship. Second runner-up, Jessica Nelson of Toledo, will receive a $500 scholarship.
"I had a great time competing with my younger sister, Erin," April said.
"It was great to be runner-up to my older sister," Erin said.
Receiving a $400 scholarship for talent was Katie Raab, of South Bend, Ind., a senior at The Cleveland Institute of Music who sang the opera piece "O mio babbino caro."
Sarah Hider, of Wooster, a student at Ohio University majoring in journalism and minoring in retail fashion production and development, was the lifestyle & fitness winner and will receive a $400 scholarship. All other competitors were awarded $100 scholarship.
Entertainment was provided by Miss Ohio 2012 Elissa McCracken, Miss Vacationland 2012 Layne Schneider and Miss Ohio Outstanding Teen 2012 Sarah Eash.
Mistress of Ceremonies was Kelly Townsend Bostic, of Springfield, Mo., the daughter of Jackie Mayer and a former competitor in the Miss New York and Miss Pennsylvania.
"April will be a great Miss Vacationland," Mayer said. "I am delighted that O'Brien will be representing my pageant."
