Norwalk City Schools will use Jan. 18 as the make-up day for Nov. 8, when classes were canceled so students and staff members could attend the state volleyball tournament at Wright State University in Fairborn.

Previously, the district had designated Jan. 18, which is a Friday, as a teacher work day, meaning students would have had the day off. It won't be a total loss for students looking for a break from school, though. There still will be no school on Monday, Jan. 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so students can enjoy a three-day weekend -- just not a four-day weekend.

The school board announced the make-up date during its meeting this week. Look for stories about other matters discussed by the school board in Saturday's paper.

Ok, I can't resist. Here goes --
WHAT??? They announced it at a school board meeting??? Did they ask the kids what the best make-up day would be?? What about the parents?? I never got a call telling me when the make-up day would be!! My daughter was planning a sleepover on the 17th!! NOW what will she do?? Is this the teachers' idea?? What if it snows, and they call snow day - are they going to disrupt MY life again??? Will the busses be running that day??? Want fries with that?? What if the volleyball team had won?? My friend's sister's ex-boyfriend's barber said that HE heard the day wouldn't have to be made up if they had won!!!! Who's gonna feed my dog if I have to take the kids to school that day?? Did they fire all the administrators yet?? I'm sending my kids to Western next year!!!
