Uptown businesses will be working hard to collect items needed in the community for this holiday season.

Beginning on Thursday and continuing through Christmas, residents will find Giving Trees popping up in district businesses with ornament tags that list an item needed by a local organization such as the: Huron County Humane Society, The Piggyback Foundation, Reach Our Youth, Salvation Army, Senior Enrichment Services, United Fund Basket Basics Program and the USO. This idea was formed during a recent meeting of the district business owners.

A story with more details about this program was published in Wednesday's Reflector.

I know that Reach Our Youth is a great organization in Huron County. It has helped so many young children have mentors and build relationships. Participants and volunteers do community outreach projects. Kathy Noftz does a great job of pioneering this organization.

This is a great opportunity to help local non profits.
