VIDEO - Beaumont edges Norwalk in state finals

(UPDATED with video) Cleveland Heights Beaumont edged Norwalk 25-18, 18-25, 25-15, 16-25, 15-8 Saturday in the Div. II volleyball finals at Wright State University.

Tied 2-2 in matches, Beaumont took control of the final match to win its first title in school history. The Blue Streaks finish the season with a 22-7 record.

Norwalk (27-3) brings home its first volleyball state trophy in school history. The Lady Truckers advanced to the Final Four in 1993 and 2002 but lost both times in the semifinals.

Sophomore Sydney Obringer led the Lady Truckers at the net with 16 kills, followed by Geena Freriks with 11, Alicia Lortcher with eighth and Kelli Weininger and Oakley Shane with six apeice.

Abby Moffit finished with 42 assists, while Sam Obringer had 33 digs.

The Lady Truckers graduate four seniors — Sam Obringer, Weininger, Shane and McKenzie Hall.

The picture was taken minutes after a hard-fought, close loss. I'm sure the players and coaches are very proud of their efforts and will look back on the season for the rest of their lives.
