The Fremont post of the state Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 5:55 p.m. Thursday on U.S. 224 east of Ohio 231 in Seneca County’s Clinton Township.

Sara Kin, 70, of Pemberville, was driving a 2011 Toyota Prius west on U.S. 224 when she tried to pass a commercial vehicle and crashed head-on into an eastbound 2003 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck being driven by Dennis Bannister, 43, of Republic, troopers said.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, troopers said.

Kin was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to the University of Toledo Medical Center.

Bannister was taken by Tiffin Township EMS to Tiffin Mercy, where he was later released.

Alcohol is not considered a factor in the crash, troopers said.

Was there and seen the parts flying. It happened a couple cars in front of me.
Can only say they were saved from worse injuries by the airbags.
May both recover from what injuries they did sustain.
