OUR VIEW: Good luck, congrats to South Central baseball team

Like the epic warriors for which they were named, the South Central Trojans have conquered every foe they have faced thus far on the baseball diamond. Their last victory, 7-5 on Friday over Cuyahoga Heights, sent the team to the regional baseball final, which will take place at 4 p.m. Thursday against Newark Catholic in the first Division IV state semifinal at Cooper Stadium in Columbus.

This historic run by South Central should be celebrated. The Trojans, 22-7 this season, have made it this deep in the tournament only twice before, making the state semifinals in 1972 and finishing as state runner up in 1995. The team also made the regional semifinals in 2001.

This season has been a magical ride for the South Central student-athletes, but not just for the players. One of the best things about high school sports is that the school community, both students and adults, can enjoy the experience as well. While football receives the majority of the attention, all high school sports can be a source of pride, and the Trojans certainly are in South Central. The team received a huge ovation for their accomplishments during the graduation ceremony on Sunday and a celebration is slated for tonight at the school's baseball field.

We wish the team luck and offer are congratulations on an amazing season. No matter what happens Thursday, it's been a season for the ages.
