The Norwalk City Schools is hosting a "Community Information Night" in the LGI Room at the High School from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Thursday.

Norwalk City Schools district officials are asking voters to approve an additional tax for daily operating purposes in next month's general election.

During Thursday's event, Superintendent Denny Doughty will present information regarding the financial picture of the district, as well as why the emergency operating levy is needed.

There will be an opportunity for those in attendance to ask questions.

Yes! Yes! Good schools = good community.

Clarence3

Of course you voted yes cuz you are a firefighter and union

Sam

Remember SB5, vote NO....

Hopefully Mr. Doughty has a Plan B.

Increasing taxes on an asset with decreased or declining market value makes little-to-no economic sense. It's like adding insult to injury.

Perhaps the City Council could vote to reduce the city income tax offset for out-of-town workers and earmark the increased revenue for education?

Wasn't this idea put forth by the previous Admin.?

Clarence3

I remember SB5 very well and I have voted absentee with a big, huge, when Hades freezes over, never again as long as I live unless we win the lotto, or I marry Donald Trump which won't happen because I'm a man...NO!

flowerchild65

This has NOTHING to do with SB5, being a firefighter or the union.
It has to do with how the state is funding (or NOT funding) our school system.
Why don't you get informed by going to the meeting tonight before you make up your mind.

Clarence3

R U for real? Mind already made up and already voted absentee. State not funding partially due to the failure of SB5 and public employees and their union unwilling to give a little.

I should send you a case of tissues cuz you're going to cry the next few decades when you all realize most of us will never vote YES again :)

Blaze

Unions unwilling to give "a little"? You have got to be kidding me! Why don't you do some research on the concessions local unions have given during this recession?

Dr. Information

@Clarence. Actually you are very wrong. Teachers now have to work 35 years and do not have the option to retire at 30. Also they have to be a certain age to retire, so many will be working 35-40 years teaching before they can retire, if they started out full time very early in their 20s. Also, they do not get the 88% of their top 3 years in retirement as this number was dropped significantly. This DOES have a lot to do with the lack of federal funds making its way down to the state level. You need informed.

Good luck NCS!

Sure wish everyone would go to a meeting to find out what is going on in the schools before deciding. If you go to a meeting, learn the issue, then vote no, so be it, but please don't be an ignorant voter, you mainly hurt the kids.

@ former local:

As a "former local," how much real estate do you own in Norwalk that will be affected if the levy passes?
